The San Francisco events calendar in January 2015 is full of interesting and exciting activities. This month, you can sample Zinfandel wines at the ZAP Wine Festival, sip cocktails at the California Academy of Sciences during their NightLife event, and celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the arrival of the sea lions at Pier 39.

On the 1pm tour, you must pay the entry fee to join.

One of the best 21+ events in SF is the NightLife Event at the California Academy of Sciences. Every Thursday night from 6pm to 10pm, they open their doors for a fun night of cocktails, special presentations, and other activities - only for adults. Each week, they center all activities around a specific theme such as Gallery Crawl, Future of Transportation, and How Earthquakes Occur. Make sure you buy your tickets in advance as there is always a LONG ticket line at the door!

Check out comedian/actor Godfrey at Cobb's Comedy Club on January 8 - 11. This in demand artist has been in movies such as Zoolander, Original Gangstas, and Soul Plane. He's also made appearances in TV's 30 Rock and Louie.

Head over to Golden Gate Park on January 11, 2015 for the 2nd Annual Hot Chocolate Run. It includes both a 15k and 5k run around Golden Gate Park. Start time for the 5k is 7:30am and the 15k starts at 8:20am. Once you complete the run, you can enjoy yummy, creamy hot chocolate!

A food trade show specifically for retailers, restaurateurs, distributors, and other key buyers in the US and from around the world. It's a place to discover more about 200,000 speciality food products produced in North American. Register in advance. Not open to the public, but anyone that can show their association with the trade is welcome to attend.

If you happen to be in San Francisco toward the beginning on the month, don't miss out on the free museum days. Many of the largest museums offer one free admission day per month and many offer it on the first Tuesday. However, you will find a few others that offer it on different days.

Twice a year, the official San Francisco Tourism Board hosts Dine About Town. During this 10-day event, more than 100 restaurants offer a 2 to 3-course lunch menus at $18.95 and/or a 3-course dinner menu at $36.95. The Dine About Town menus include a 10% to 25% discount. Make sure to request a Dine About Town menu when you sit down.

Every year, Pier 39 celebrates the arrival of the sea lions. From January 16 - 19, head over to Pier 39 to check out their new Sea Lion Center as well as watch these playful creatures jockey for position on the platforms. During this three day event, you can also participate in other fun, special activities.

In January, you will find two film festivals. The first is Noir City which features 10 days of some of the most important Noir works from the 1940s and 1950s. It runs from January 16 - 25. The second is Berlin and Beyond, which shows pieces from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. This festival runs from January 31 to February 1.

Celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in San Francisco. This holiday's events include a film festival, arts festival, kids discovery program, talks from community leaders, and a large march/parade on Monday morning.

One of the largest comedy festivals in the US is SF Sketchfest. It features several performances each day by both local and internationally recognized comedians. This year's schedule is now available and features top comedians such as Doug Benson, Janeane Garofalo, Kevin McDonald, and Maya Rudolph.

January is one of the best times of year to head out on the waters for a whale watching adventure. In January, you will most likely see Gray, Sperm, and Killer (Orca) Whales. Even though the weather can be a little rainy, it's the perfect time to see these massive creatures as they move through the Pacific Ocean waters off the SF coast.

The 4th Annual Bay Area Brew Fest is on Saturday, January 24. This one-day event features the best domestic and international beers. During the event, you can also pick up some gourmet eats from SF's best food trucks (not included in the ticket price). Tickets start at $40 per person.

The 2015 ZAP (Zinfandel Advocates and Producers) Wine Tasting Festival is January 29 - 31. It will be held at two locations: The Presidio and the Four Seasons. The general wine tasting session, open to the public, is on Saturday, January 31 at the Presidio.

The SF Symphony calendar is full of great performances this January. Highlights this month include The Godfather Live (January 9 & 10), MTT conducts The Soldier's Tale (January 16 - 18), and Mozart & More (January 29 - 31). This world-class symphony plays all concerts at Davies Symphony Hall in SF's Civic Center District.
