Need Info on Easter Church Services

by Kathy
(Manassas, va)

We are leaving from SFO on a 10am flight on Easter morning (March 31), and would like to attend church before we go. Are there any sunrise services near the airport? What about a chapel service in the airport? Or, perhaps a vigil service on Saturday evening (we are not really interested in the long Catholic Easter vigil services that last several hours)?

Thank you for your question. I did a little research for you today and it looks like your best bet is to try out St. Veronica Catholic Church in South San Francisco. It looks like they are planning on a 6:30am Easter Mass on Sunday morning.

South San Francisco is in between San Francisco and the airport. Their address is 434 Alida Way, South San Francisco, CA 94080. I mapped it out for you and its only about 10 minutes to the airport from this church. Even if this mass is long and lasts more than an hour, you still have time to get to the airport and to your flight in plenty of time.

I tried to call and confirm, but no one was around anymore today. Here is a link to their website with more information:

I'd confirm with them to make sure, but their website says their first holiday mass starts at 6:30am. Based on their site, I also get the impression that quite a few travelers attend their masses.

Another option I found, but not sure it fits your needs, is a Holy Saturday service at Saint Dominic's Catholic Church in SF. It starts at 8am and there is a brunch at the church after. Here are the details on this service:

These are the best options I ran across. Most masses start at 8am, which won't give you enough time to get to the airport for your flight. All the Saturday evening masses were the longer Vigil Masses that you mentioned you weren't interested in attending.

I also wanted to mention that there is one large sunrise service. It starts at 6:30am at Mount Davidson. However, about 50,000 people attend every year, so I'm not sure you would be able to make it back to your car and out of the area in time to still make your flight.

Please take a look at this option and let me know if it works for you. If not, I'll try and do a little more digging and see if I come up with anything else.

Have an amazing time in San Francisco and thanks for visiting my site!
