This year, Labor Day falls on Monday, September 2. All weekend long, you will find several fun events in and near the city. Highlights for the weekend include Shakespeare in the Park, Oakland A's baseball games and the Sausalito Arts Festival.

Tickets are already on sale for the two 49ers home games at Candlestick Park. The first game is on Sunday, September 8 at 1:25pm against the Green Bay Packers. Their other home game is on Sunday, September 22 at 1:25pm against the Indianapolis Colts.
The September live music calendar is starting to fill up. This month, you can see outdoor performances from Jason Mraz and the Fall Out Boy at the new America's Cup Pavilion. Other top concerts scheduled already this month include Adam Ant, The Mission U.K. and Bobby McFerrin.

Enjoy free live music on September 21 and 22 at the Polk Street Blues Festival. This annual event is in San Francisco's Russian Hill district. From 10am to 6pm both days, you can also indulge in gourmet food as well as visit dozens of booths showcasing unique arts and crafts.

September is the start of the 2013/2014 Theater Season. Beginning on September 24, you can catch a performance of Beautiful, The Carole King Musical. This award winning musical tells the story of how this Brooklyn girl became a music legend.

September is one of my favorite times to go whale watching. This is the time of year when both the Humpback and Blue Whales migrate through the Pacific Ocean just miles from the shores of SF. These all day tours take you to the best spots to find these migrating whales as well as large sea turtles and schools of dolphins. It's an experience you will never forget!
Join the fun in Potrero Hill for the Summersalt Art & Music Festival. This year's event is on Saturday, September 14 from 12pm to 8pm. This outdoor street fair includes two stages of live music from arts such as The Grouch & Eligh, Felix Cartal & Kill Paris.

The beginning of September marks the opening of the 2013/2014 season. Join them on Tuesday, September 3 for their Black Tie Opening Night Gala. This event starts with a sparkling wine reception in the lobby of the Davies Symphony Hall. This is followed by a concert featuring Audra McDonald performing alongside Michael Tilson Thomas and the SF Symphony.
September is harvest season in Sonoma and Napa Valley. It's an amazing time to visit as the wineries are bustling with harvest related activities. The grapes and leaves are both turning colors, which creates several picture perfect moments throughout both regions.

This year's annual Oktoberfest by the Bay is on September 20 - 22, 2013. Head over to Pier 48 for cold beer, tasty food and plenty of music and dancing.
Hours for this festival are: Friday from 5pm to 12am; Saturday from 11am to 5pm & 6pm to 12am; and Sunday from 11am to 6pm.
Every year, the SF Opera performs a free show in the park to kick off their upcoming season. This year, you can catch their performance on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 1:30pm in Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park. Bring along a picnic lunch as you enjoy the show. Food and beverages will also be for sale near the performance.

During the month of September, you will find two SF Opera productions. The first is the highly anticipated Mephistopheles, Arrigo Boito's interpretation of Goethe's Faust. The second performance is Dolores Claiborne, which brings some of Stephen King's characters to life.

If you enjoy craft beers, you will love this event at the Folsom Street Foundry (1425 Folsom Street) on Saturday, September 14. Around the World in 80 Beers features handcrafted beers from both the US and several countries around the world. The tasting lasts from 4pm to 6:30pm. Tickets start at around $40 per person, but you can get them on Goldstar at a fraction of the cost.
On Saturday, September 14 & Sunday, September 15, head to Ghirardelli Square for their 18th Annual Chocolate Festival. During this two-day event, you can sample a variety of wine & chocolate pairings, watch Tim Nugent from "Top Chef: Just Desserts" as he hosts a culinary demonstration and participate in the silent auction. Tickets start at $20 per person each day.
Union Square Live offers a variety of entertainment in the plaza - for free! Head over to learn how to salsa dance, watch acrobats perform their tricks, and to listen to up and coming local musicians. Performances are most Wednesdays and Sundays throughout the month of September

At the end of September, head over to Golden Gate Park's Botanical Gardens for their annual Orchids in the Park sale and exhibition event. This two-day is on Saturday, September 28 & Sunday October 29 from 10am to 5pm. Admission is $4 at the door.
