August is the heart of the busy travel season. It's a fun month, since it's usually sunny during the day with the beautiful fog rolling in at night to cover the city. This makes it cool and comfortable all month long.

Outside Lands Music Festival

The Outside Lands Music Festival is one of the top festivals in SF every year. This three-day event features dozens of live music performances all day long. This year's event is August 8 - 10. Giants Baseball

Noe Valley wine Walk

Join other local wine lovers at this summer's Noe Valley Wine Walk. This evening event is on Thursday, August 21 from 4pm to 8pm. For four hours, you can sample wines, savor finger foods, and enjoy other special treats along 24th Street from Diamond to Chattanooga. Tickets are $25 per person and you can buy them in person at the parking lot at 3865 24th Street (between Sanchez and Vicksburg).

Nightlife at the Academy of Sciences

Every Thursday night, the California Academy of Sciences offers those over 21 the chance to visit this museum at night. Every Thursday, they select a different theme so you can learn more about topics such as "How Earthquake Occur" or "The Science Behind Fireworks". From 6pm to 10pm, you can walk through the museum, enjoy a few cocktails and learn more about that night's specific topic. It's a great way to see the museum in a different light.

Since these events are very popular, I recommend buying your tickets in advance. This allows you to walk right in instead of waiting in line to buy your ticket once you arrive!

Free Walking Tour of Chinatown

Three times a week the SF public library offers a free walking tour of the dynamic Chinatown district. They are on Monday at 10am, Monday at 1:30pm and Saturday at 10am. This two and a half hour tour takes you through the back alleys and the history of this mysterious district. No reservations required. Simply show up a few minutes before the start time inside Portsmouth Square Park near the parking garage elevators.

Day Tour to Napa or Sonoma

August is the perfect time to head north for the day and sample some of the yummy local wines. This time of year, the grapes are starting to ripen and the vineyards are gorgeous. Both are just an hour north of the city, so you can easily get their on your own or take a guided tour. The great thing about a guided tour is that you don't have to worry about driving back to the city after a long day of wine tasting!

SF Sunday Streets

In August, SF Sunday Streets is on Sunday the 24th in the Mission District. During this event, several streets close to cars so that outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy some time walking, running and biking. The event also includes other activities such as live music, free health screenings and more.

Labor Day Weekend

SF 49ers Preseason Games

The San Francisco 49ers host their first preseason home game on August 17. They take on the Denver Broncos at their new stadium in Santa Clara. They also face off against the San Diego Chargers at home on August 24.

Nihonmachi Street Fair

Head over to Japantown August 2 and 3 for the 41st Annual Nihonmachi Street Fair. This two-day event features live music, Asian Pacific inspired performances and a kids area with crafts and games. Yerba Buena Gardens Festival

Pistahan Parade & Festival

This year's Pistahan Parade and Festival is at SF's Yerba Buena Gardens in the downtown area. This event celebrates the Filipino American culture. During this two-day event, you entertainment, education and inspiration in seven pavilions all around the gardens. You can also enjoy Filipino art, music and food. Admission is free.

Film Night in the Park

In August, you can catch two free films as part of Film Night in the Park. The first is on Saturday, August 2 at Dolores Park. You can also see a free flick on Saturday, August 23 at Union Square. Make sure to bring along a blanket, towel or low chair to sit on during the movie.

SF Street Food Festival

Ringling Brothers Circus

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus rolls into San Francisco at the end of August. This year's show is Legends.
