I'm going back and forth between staying in Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf. I see the benefits of both, but am not sure which is the right one for us.
We are staying for just over a week. My husband and I enjoy going out at night and plan on visiting many of the neighborhoods throughout the city.
Which area do you think we should select to stay in for our visit?
Response from Jill
Thank you Jennifer. This is a great question and one that comes up quite a bit. Both are great places to stay while visiting San Francisco.
Based on what you would like to do during your visit, I recommend that your husband and you stay in Union Square. This area of the city is more centrally located and it is easier to access other parts of the city.
In Union Square, you will find some great restaurants. It's also close to many fun nightlife options including the theater, live music venues and some of the top bars & dance clubs.
There are also more hotel options in Union Square. You will find some great luxury hotels as well as a number of clean, budget friendly options. Here are just a few recommendations for you to check out before booking:
While Fisherman's Wharf is also a great option, I usually recommend this to people traveling with kids.
This neighborhood has a lot of great activities and those traveling with kids tend to spend a little more time here.
Fisherman's Wharf is also a great place to stay for those visiting for only a couple of days. It's close to many of the top attractions including Pier 39 and the ferries to Alcatraz Island. It's also a popular pick up and drop off point for many of the tours around San Francisco.
Jennifer, thanks again for your questions and let me know if you need anything else before your trip.
Enjoy your stay in San Francisco!
